Take a trip up the Northern California Coastline
I love the Northern Coast of California probably as much as the southern coast. While it's much colder and foggier, the scenic views are simply stunning. It's a place where ocean fog rolls in to blanket hushed redwood forests and whales spout offshore.It’s also a place where a new generation of farmers and winemakers focus on preserving the land as well as producing amazing food and wine.Its beautiful all year round to visit but if you like whale watching then plan to visit between December through April to witness the gray whales swimming south for the summer.There are so many little towns to visit like Mendocino, Fort Bragg, Caspar, and Elk so plan your stay accordingly.

Things to do
Whale Watching - Between December through April to witness roughly 15,000 gray whales swimming south for the summer
Beaches - So many to choose from! Depending on what you are in the mood for, pick from one of the many options available:Caspar Beach, Glass Beach, Noyo Beach, etc.
Kayaking - Kayak on the gorgeous 8 mile long Big River Estuary. Escape the fog and ride the tide through a redwood canyon. Watch for seals, otters and bird life.
Hiking - Mendocino Village is surrounded on three sides by gentle trails that meander along the rugged coastline providing spectacular views of sea arches, ancient blow holes, hidden grottos and the ever changing Pacific Ocean.
Point Arena Lighthouse - Open for public tours, the museum is located in the Fog Signal Building, includes displays of historical equipment and pictures, Coast Guard and ship wreck artifacts and charts, geographical maps and information on the area, and examples of local plants, birds, and whales.
Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens - Located on 47 Ocean Front acres, this magnificent landscape includes canyons, wetlands, coastal bluffs, a closed-cone pine forest and a varied array of floral and plant collections.
Skunk Train - Take a trip back in time on the World Famous Skunk Train from the Mendocino coast through the majestic redwood forest. It's fun for the whole family!!

Anderson Valley is best known for Pinot Noir wine. The wine tasting experience reminds me of Napa 15-20 years ago when you can chat with the wine makers and don't feel rushed.
